Tour: Casa Diablo IV Geothermal Plant

Join us for a behind-the-scenes look at the Casa Diablo IV Facility, the first geothermal project built in the state of California in 30 years. This facility provides 40 megawatts of reliable, zero-emission power and delivers environmental and economic benefits through its innovative closed-loop system. This tour is free and open to all, however space is limited and registration is required. We will meet at the Mammoth Lakes Branch Library, where participants will board a shuttle for the duration of the tour. The tour will be presented by Ormat Technologies Inc.

Ever wondered what happens after you flush? Join us for an eye-opening tour of Mammoth Community Water District's wastewater treatment facility! Discover the fascinating world of wastewater and learn about the nexus of water and energy right in your community. This tour is free and open to all. However, space is limited, and registration is required.

Mono County Sustainability Fair

  • Location: Mammoth Lakes Branch Library, 400 Sierra Park Rd

  • Time: 10:00 am-3:00 pm

In Mono County, we believe Earth Day is Every Day - and our appreciation for sustainability can't be contained to only April! Join us at the Mammoth Library for the Mono County Sustainability Fair on May 11, where local organizations will share about their Eastern Sierra initiatives.

Participating organizations include the Eastern Sierra Interpretive Association, Eastern Sierra Green Business Program, High Sierra Energy Foundation, Inyo and Mono350, Whitebark Institute, Sierra Nevada Bighorn Sheep Foundation, and more!

In the parking lot, we will have electric vehicles on display from the Eastern Sierra Electric Vehicle Chapter, and The Rolling Chef 395 will be onsite serving delicious food to keep you sustained throughout the event.

The first 25 attendees to arrive will receive a $15 gift certificate for lunch! The event is free and open to all ages. Tickets are not required.

Pollinator Garden Workshop with the Eastern Sierra Land Trust

Did you know that gardening with native plants can save you money and water? Native plants found in the Eastern Sierra are often drought tolerant and require less maintenance than lawns or high-water-use plants. Native plants also attract pollinators like birds and butterflies, which are essential for wildflowers and productive gardens. Learn how to design a Pollinator Garden at our free workshop, presented by the Eastern Sierra Land Trust.

Reducing Exposure to Wildfire Smoke and Air Quality Impacts

In the Eastern Sierra, we are all aware of the potential for wildfire smoke to impact our air quality. Learn how to mitigate your exposure when air quality drops with simple steps, including where to find information and how best to utilize available data.  We will also provide a lesson in building low-cost air filters. This is a free workshop presented by the Great Basin Unified Air Pollution Control District.

Workshop: Healthy Forests & Firewise Communities

Whitebark Institute presents a distinctive two-part workshop, beginning with an informative presentation on forest ecology, landscape health, and ongoing restoration efforts in Mono and Inyo Counties. Moreover, attendees will gain valuable insights into preparing themselves and their homes, promoting resilience in forested areas. Following this, twenty participants will embark on a short field trip to forest demonstration areas around Mammoth Lakes, showcasing examples of forest treatments that have already been implemented. Join us for an enlightening journey toward understanding, action, and preparedness for healthier forests and safer communities!
